Middle East data centre sector’s growing role reviewed

Businesses increasingly integrate AI

The Middle East’s most significant gathering of data centre professionals was held at GITEX Global 2024 on October 17 to highlight the region’s role in the rapidly evolving data centre market.

As businesses increasingly integrate AI into their operations, the global data centre market is projected to soar to $256 billion by the end of 2024 and reach $775 billion by 2034.

The conference’s agenda emphasised the profound implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on data infrastructure, a pivotal driver in the billion-dollar global market.

Discussions revolved around the contributions of hyperscale, edge, and modular data centres to the industry’s growth. Prominent data centre players like Legrand, Vertiv, Alibaba Cloud, AWS, DELL, Google Cloud, IBM, and Lenovo shared their insights on the sector’s evolving trajectory and potential avenues for accelerated growth.

Data centre industry experts highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in development. Marc Marazzi, Vice President of Legrand Data Center Solutions, emphasised the necessity of careful planning and environmental responsibility in the rapidly expanding sector.

He said: “It is great to see many taking the green initiative seriously and looking at how they build and cool data centres. Today, they are more significant than ever and being built faster, but we must not lose sight of how we manufacture, what we are installing, and how they are managed.

“Data centres are built with a 15-year outlook, and we must consider their future impact from the outset,” Marazzi added.

GITEX Global 2024, taking place from October 14-18 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), is being promoted by DWTC, the organiser, as the world’s largest tech and startup event. This year marks the event’s 44th edition. The event essentially showcases technological advancements from across the globe and helps to set the stage for transformative conversations about the tech industry’s future in the Middle East region.
