Nissan’s e-Power vehicle production passes 1.5 million milestone

With US and Canada on the anvil

Nissan has achieved a significant milestone in its e-Power vehicle production, surpassing 1.5 million units globally by the end of October 2024. This vehicle’s innovative powertrain technology is available in 68 markets worldwide, showcasing Nissan’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup.

The e-Power system, a distinctive technology developed by Nissan, utilises a small petrol engine and a lithium-ion battery to power an electric motor. Unlike traditional hybrids, the electric motor solely drives the wheels, offering drivers a uniquely electric vehicle experience characterised by robust acceleration and a notably quiet ride. This approach allows for a seamless transition between electric and petrol power, enhancing driving efficiency.

Nissan introduced the e-Power in Japan in 2016 with the Note e-Power model. Since then, the availability of this technology has expanded to various models, including the Kicks and X-Trail SUVs, as well as the Serena minivan.

In Japan

In fiscal year 2023, 42.6% of Nissan vehicles sold in Japan were equipped with the e-Power system, indicating strong consumer acceptance and demand.

The expansion of e-Power technology continued with its introduction in China in 2021, where it became available with the Sylphy e-Power sedan and, later, the X-Trail SUV. In Europe, the e-Power versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs were launched in 2022, with sales exceeding 100,000 units by January 2024.

Looking ahead, Nissan plans to introduce the e-Power technology to the US and Canada by the end of fiscal year 2026, signalling a broader commitment to electrification in North America. The company aims to continuously enhance the appeal and competitiveness of the e-Power lineup, addressing the diverse needs of customers globally.

As of the end of October 2024, the cumulative production of e-Power vehicles is as follows: 1.17 million units in Japan, 140,000 units in Europe, 60,000 units in China, and 150,000 units in other markets, totalling approximately 1.52 million units. With these advancements, Nissan is poised to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle market while contributing to a more sustainable automotive future.
