UAE Youth Empowered to Lead on Sustainability through Expanded Program

Takween Al Ghurair is expanding in response to its resounding success, empowering Emirati students with vital skills in environmental responsibility and sustainable innovation. Aligned with the UAE Leadership’s vision and national identity, this program equips students aged 14-18 through hands-on workshops and leadership training, preparing them to actively drive sustainability goals within their communities.

Answering the call from the community, the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation (AGF) and Goumbook have renewed their commitment to the Sustainability Ambassador Course under Takween Al Ghurair. This enhanced collaboration is dedicated to cultivating a generation of young sustainability champions, ready to make a lasting impact across the UAE.

This extended program aims to reach over 500 Emirati youth this year through over 100 workshops. Participants will deepen their knowledge of topics such the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, food security, the circular economy, sustainable fashion, biodiversity, and ocean conservation. The program also includes the Sustainability Ambassador track, training young leaders to advocate for environmental awareness and implement sustainability-focused projects addressing local issues.

“Empowering youth with sustainable practices and environmental awareness is essential to building the resilient future we all envision,” said Dr. Sonia Ben Jaafar, CEO of AGF. “When we equip young people with practical skills and a sense of responsibility, we’re not just inspiring leaders and advocates; we’re preparing a generation ready to confront and address the urgent challenges of our time. Our goal is to cultivate leaders who are not only informed and active ambassadors within their communities but who are genuinely prepared to drive transformative change and contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future.”

Tatiana Antonelli Abella, Founder and Managing Director at Goumbook, added, “How do we design a better future? By creating hope. And how do we create hope? We need to empower youth through education and practical solutions so they can adapt to rapid changes and make informed decisions. Our partnership with the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation exemplifies this vision, guiding Emirati youth to integrate sustainability and climate action into their career paths.”

In its first year, the partnership engaged over 168 students through 39 workshops, inspiring participants to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives.
