Henry Zielinski, a nine-year-old Grade 3 student from Clarion School, recently had an inspiring learning experience, which highlights the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority’s commitment to enriching student education. During a field trip to Al Shindagha’s Merkaz Turath, particularly the Bait al Bahar (Sea House), Henry was transported back in time to explore the UAE’s rich maritime heritage, leaving a lasting impact on his imagination and curiosity.
This deep dive into the nation’s history ignited Henry’s curiosity about the UAE’s geological background, particularly the Hajar Mountains and their significance in limestone mining in Fujairah. Motivated by what he had learned, Henry embarked on an ambitious project to create a detailed model of the Hajar Mountains and a limestone mine, drawing a direct connection between his life and the historical practices he had discovered. “I wanted to show how people used to live and work here,” he explained.
The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (The Department of Cultural and Heritage Programs) recognized Henry’s effort, and he was awarded a Certificate For Participation in the marine industries workshops at the Heritage Center for Traditional Handicrafts in 2024. The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority’s role in fostering educational experiences like this demonstrates its commitment to supporting student learning and nurturing young minds. Henry’s journey through history is a testament to his curiosity and an inspiration for other students to connect with their heritage and explore new horizons.
