FIA and Extreme H partner on off-road hydrogen racing world cup

Set to launch in 2025

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Extreme H have signed a non-binding agreement, formalising their collaboration to establish the FIA Extreme H World Cup framework. This ground-breaking initiative, the first-ever hydrogen-powered off-road racing series, is set to make waves in both the motorsport and automotive sectors.

The partnership ensures that the competition adheres to the FIA’s values, including sustainability, technological innovation, and inclusivity. As a result, the competition is expected to reflect the future of global motorsport while aligning with the FIA’s ongoing commitment to promoting clean and efficient energy solutions.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup competition will showcase the potential of hydrogen technology and promote gender equality in motorsports.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup will launch in 2025, and further details about its plans will be revealed in the coming months.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup will be the first racing series to use cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell technology. This groundbreaking use of hydrogen as a zero-emission energy source will set a new benchmark in the racing world and prove that motorsport can be a powerful testbed for clean energy technologies.

As the world moves towards more sustainable energy solutions, the FIA hopes the competition will inspire increased investment in hydrogen infrastructure, helping accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.

In addition to its technological advancements, the FIA Extreme H World Cup is committed to fostering greater gender equality within motorsport. One of the competition’s defining features will be its focus on gender parity, with all teams required to feature an equal number of male and female drivers.

This inclusive approach is designed to provide equal opportunities for men and women to compete and excel, breaking down traditional barriers in a sport historically dominated by men. The FIA Extreme H World Cup hopes to inspire future generations of drivers, regardless of gender, and foster a more diverse fanbase.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “The FIA is committed to supporting initiatives that set new standards for sustainability and equality. We look forward to the FIA Extreme H World Cup’s positive impact across motorsport, the automotive industry, and beyond, accelerating the transition to clean energy and fostering an inclusive racing culture. Motorsport must evolve and adapt to remain sustainable, and adopting hydrogen fuels is a key part of our future.”

Alejandro Agag, the Founder and CEO of the FIA Extreme H World Cup, also shared his excitement about the project. “It is a very proud moment for us all as Extreme H becomes the FIA Extreme H World Cup. This recognition from motorsport’s governing body is an important stamp of approval and a major step forward in showcasing hydrogen’s potential while aligning with the highest global standards in motorsport.”
