First round of Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship second edition to be held in January

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation is set to ignite another season of excitement with the launch of the second edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The first round will take place from January 17 to 19 at Mubadala Arena, Abu Dhabi.

Registration is now open for the event, which features competitions across categories, including kids, youth, adults, and masters.

The first edition of the championship, which spanned five rounds—two for the no-gi category and three for the Gi category—held in various emirates, was a huge success. It attracted over 10,000 male and female participants from leading clubs and academies nationwide.

The championship’s inaugural edition provided athletes a world-class platform to showcase their abilities, hone their skills, and gain experience in a competitive environment on par with top international tournaments. It also spotlighted emerging talents, offering them opportunities to shine. Clubs and academies were motivated to field their best athletes, aiming to secure points, win medals and cash prizes, and be crowned champions of the first edition.

“We are proud of the success of the first edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which carries a name dear to us all,” said His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. “This achievement was made possible by the limitless support of our wise leadership for sports and athletes, especially jiu-jitsu.”

“The championship reflects the Federation’s strategy to strengthen jiu-jitsu’s presence locally and internationally while continuing to nurture and develop national talent. It has also contributed to identifying exceptional athletes who can represent the UAE on continental and global stages.

He added: “The male and female athletes demonstrated incredible skill and competitive spirit throughout the five rounds, showcasing their dedication to improvement and success. The championship has succeeded in providing a platform to identify and develop talent while promoting jiu-jitsu as a sport that instils discipline, patience, resilience, courage, and teamwork. We’re delighted that it has inspired young generations, served as a stage for showcasing talent, and reinforced the UAE’s position as a global hub for jiu-jitsu. We are confident that the next edition will build on this success driving the sport’s growth to new heights.

“The event has also played a central role in encouraging community participation in sports, helping to build a generation that is physically and mentally strong. The large turnout of families supporting their children highlights the championship’s significance. It has evolved into a comprehensive event, combining a professional sports environment with cultural activities, sports exhibitions, and entertainment for all.”
