Jala Spa & Wellness Welcomes International Wellness Consultant João Santos
Rising 2,000 metres into Oman’s pristine mountain air, Jala Spa & Wellness announces the next chapter of its Wellness Specialist Practitioners Programme with the arrival of international wellness consultant João Santos. From 20th March to 30th April 2025, João brings his therapeutic dry massage practice to Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort & Spa, offering guests relief for chronic pain and muscle tension.
Following its launch at the end of last year, the Wellness Specialist Practitioners Programme continues to bring world-class practitioners to this mountain sanctuary, providing guests with access to specialised wellness treatments.
João’s practice combines four distinct healing traditions – Japanese Shiatsu, Chinese Tui-na, Western trigger point therapy, and Thai stretching – offering particular relief for those suffering from:
- Neck and shoulder problems, including frozen shoulder
- Headaches and migraines
- Lower back pain and sciatica
- Joint stiffness and restricted movement
- Muscle inflammation and tension
His oil-free massage technique uses firm, sustained pressure and specific friction movements to work deeper into muscle tissue. “With dry massage, we can target inflammation and muscle tension more directly. The absence of oil allows for deeper pressure and more precise work on problem areas, especially beneficial for chronic conditions that haven’t responded to traditional massage,” explains João.
His signature treatments include:
João’s Bespoke Massage (60/90 minutes, OMR 70++/90++ per person):
This fusion of East and West methods includes energy balancing, Tui Na, and Thai stretching techniques. João tailors each session to meet individual goals and needs.
Therapeutic Foot Reflexology (45 minutes, OMR 40++ per person):
Explore the traditional body chart across the top and plantar areas of the foot, combined with meridians and energy lines.
The Thirty – Tension Relief (30 minutes, OMR 40++ per person):
A well-balanced, invigorating back dry massage that incorporates Tui Na techniques and Thai stretching movements.
Jala Spa & Wellness, set 2,000 metres above sea level, provides an ideal setting for these practices. The spa’s design draws inspiration from its surroundings – the mountains, ancient falaj water systems, and Jabal Akhdar’s prized damask roses – creating a natural sanctuary for healing.
