For enhanced baggage tracking
Lufthansa Group airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings, have launched a new service to improve passenger baggage tracking.
Effective immediately, customers flying with these airlines can now securely and privately share the location of their baggage through the Apple AirTag or Find My network, using the baggage tracing service’s existing digital channels.
The integration of Apple’s AirTag location feature allows passengers to conveniently and transparently track their luggage. The data from AirTags will be incorporated into the airlines’ systems, enhancing the existing baggage tracking capabilities and providing passengers with more accurate, real-time updates.
Apple AirTag is a compact, Bluetooth-enabled tracking device to help locate personal items like keys, bags, or wallets. The Find My network provides precise location tracking through Apple devices. It offers easy setup, long battery life, and privacy-focused features, ensuring security and accuracy.
Dieter Vranckx, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, said: “Our digital products team, the ‘Digital Hangar,’ with its approximately 1,000 experts, offers our customers new digital services, transparent information, and support along the entire journey every month. Apple AirTag data is one example of how we continuously enhance the customer journey with innovative digital services across all our Group airlines.”
The initiative is part of Lufthansa Group’s broader efforts to improve passenger experience through digital innovation. Oliver Schmitt, Head of the Digital Hangar, highlighted the advancements in baggage tracing technology, saying, “Thanks to our app and website, passengers can now quickly and easily find solutions in case of irregularities. Integrating AirTag data further optimises our ability to act efficiently, ensuring we can resolve issues more swiftly.”
By integrating Apple AirTag data, Lufthansa Group airlines set a new standard in baggage handling, offering customers additional support and reassurance while travelling. With the rapid adoption of digital solutions, this move underscores the Group’s commitment to improving the overall travel experience for its passengers.
