The UAE national jiu-jitsu team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, successfully completed official weigh-in procedures in Amman, Jordan, ahead of the ninth edition of the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship, which is taking place from May 23 to 26.
The team consists of 37 male and female athletes competing in both the adult and under-21 categories. The group has completed a rigorous preparation program that includes domestic and international training camps aimed at improving performance and team cohesion.
The championship begins on Saturday with the men’s adult division, followed by the women’s adult division on Sunday. The under-21 male and female competitions will conclude on Monday, May 26.
His Excellency Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, stated, “The Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship is a significant milestone for the national team and an opportunity to reinforce the UAE’s prominence in the sport across the continent and globally. Successfully making weight demonstrates the athletes’ discipline and preparedness to compete at the top level. Our group includes some of the country’s best athletes who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and preparation. We are convinced that they will represent the UAE proudly.”
Head coach Helder Medeiros remarked, “The athletes are in top physical shape. The results of our recent training camp were very promising, and the players demonstrated excellent discipline and ambition. We’re presently working on opponent analysis and preparing tactical preparations for each fight.”
Hazza Al Qubaisi, who competes in the men’s 85kg category, stated, “It is a great honor to represent the UAE on this continental platform. We’ve worked hard, and I’m confident in our readiness. I hope to do my best and assist my team to win the title.”
