Barceló Group publishes its results in its 2024 Annual Report

Barceló Group reveals its Annual Report for the 2024 financial year, an exceptional year for global tourism, in which tourism activity has recovered in virtually all markets.

The company ended the year with a turnover of $8.68 billion and Net profit of $349.4 million (applying IFRS 16), reflecting year-on-year growth of 13% and 56%, respectively. This performance has enabled the Barceló Group to fully eliminate its debt. Additionally, EBITDA (applying IFRS 16) surpassed $764 million, representing a 24% increase compared to 2023.

Barceló Group also announced the initiation of its generational transition process with the addition of Marta D. Barceló Fontirroig and Antonio Tovar Barceló to the company’s management committee. Barceló Fontirroig was recently appointed president of Barceló Crestline Corporation – the group’s North American subsidiary responsible for managing its hotels in the United States – and has joined the board of directors of Barceló Group. Meanwhile, Tovar Barceló has also been appointed CEO for Central America and the Caribbean at Barceló Hotel Group, overseeing hotel operations in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Aruba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.

Strategic investment and hotel expansion

In 2024, Barceló Hotel Group – the hotel division of Barceló Group – opened 15 hotels globally, entering new destinations such as Cape Verde and Thailand for the first time.

Furthermore, the opening of new properties in destinations where it already has a presence – such as Morocco, Turkey, and Madeira – reflects the company’s commitment to international expansion. Similarly, the launch of new hotels in Spain, specifically in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Jerez de la Frontera, reaffirms its commitment to continued growth in the country.

In 2025, the Group plans to invest nearly €500 million, €100 million more than the previous year. This investment will support both the improvement and repositioning of existing properties as well as the opening of new hotels in current and new markets, depending on emerging opportunities. Barceló Hotel Group’s strategy continues to prioritise assets that offer solid returns and align with its vision for expansion and positioning in high-yield segments.

The Group’s most valuable asset remains its team of over 40,800 professionals, whose commitment, teamwork, and drive for constant improvement continue to be key to achieving the company’s objectives.

Actions for regenerative tourism

The 2024 Annual Report also showcases progress in the Barceló ReGen sustainability strategy, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to regenerative tourism. The primary goal is to ensure that its hotels are increasingly environmentally responsible while also supporting the economic, social, and cultural development of destinations in a sustainable and ethical manner.

In 2023, the Barceló ReGen Standards received official recognition from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) – the leading authority for validating international sustainability criteria in tourism. In 2024, the company began implementation in four pilot hotels, marking a pivotal step toward integrating this framework across its entire portfolio. This achievement has positioned Barceló Hotel Group as the first Spanish hotel chain to obtain this regulatory recognition, and one of the few globally to hold it.
