Manama, Bahrain: Majid Al Futtaim, the Dubai-based retail and leisure giant, has officially launched its new grocery brand, HyperMax, in Bahrain following the closure of Carrefour operations in the kingdom.

The move comes after Carrefour Bahrain, also operated by Majid Al Futtaim, ceased operations on September 14. The company announced the transition in a social media post, assuring customers that the new HyperMax brand would continue to deliver quality products and services.

The shift reflects Majid Al Futtaim’s broader regional strategy, with Carrefour stores in Oman also rebranded as HyperMax earlier this year, and operations in Jordan winding down in late 2024. Across the region, the group retains exclusive rights to Carrefour in 12 markets spanning the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Local partnerships at the core

HyperMax is entering the Bahraini market with six stores and a workforce of more than 1,600 employees. The brand is placing a strong emphasis on local collaboration, partnering with over 250 Bahraini farmers, producers, suppliers, and SMEs to strengthen supply chains and boost the national economy.

“Our goal with HyperMax is to place communities and customers at the centre of everything we do,” said Mohamad El Khatib, Head of Operations at Majid Al Futtaim Retail – HyperMax Bahrain. “By championing local sourcing, we are building a dynamic ecosystem that ensures fresh, high-quality products are both accessible and affordable.”

A new retail chapter for Bahrain

The launch of HyperMax underscores Majid Al Futtaim’s long-term commitment to the Bahraini market and its vision to create a sustainable, customer-focused retail ecosystem. As the new brand takes over from Carrefour, Bahraini shoppers can expect continuity in service with an added focus on supporting local producers.

With HyperMax now firmly established in Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan, Majid Al Futtaim is shaping a new chapter in regional grocery retail.
