The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), has launched a fleet of Robosweeper autonomous cleaning vehicles along the Abu Dhabi Corniche, marking a major step in the emirate’s journey toward intelligent and sustainable city management.

Developed by Autogo, a subsidiary of K2, under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the initiative reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to integrating innovation and automation into public service operations.

The Robosweeper vehicles are equipped with advanced sensors, cameras, and navigation systems that allow them to follow pre-programmed routes and clean urban spaces including pavements, walkways, and public squares without human intervention. The technology enhances efficiency, reduces reliance on manual labour, and maintains high standards of cleanliness across public areas.

Driving Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure

Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary at the DMT, said the launch demonstrates the government’s forward-thinking approach to urban management.

“The deployment of this technology exemplifies our proactive approach to integrating cutting-edge innovation into public infrastructure. By pioneering such solutions, we are shaping a future where technology enhances both operational performance and community well-being,” he said.

Dr. Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director General of the ITC, emphasized that the autonomous cleaning initiative aligns with the emirate’s strategy to adopt sustainable and data-driven systems.

“This project reaffirms Abu Dhabi’s commitment to investing in smart and green solutions that enhance transport and public services while promoting environmental protection and quality of life,” he noted.

A Leap Toward Future Cities

Sean Teo, Managing Director of K2, said the project showcases Abu Dhabi’s role as a global testbed for future-ready city innovations.

“We are proud to partner with the ITC and Abu Dhabi Municipality on this initiative, which represents a leap forward in robotics and intelligent service solutions. The Robosweeper devices illustrate how technology can redefine public facility management and support the emirate’s vision for smart, sustainable living,” he said.

The introduction of autonomous street-cleaning vehicles is part of Abu Dhabi’s broader smart mobility and sustainability agenda integrating artificial intelligence and robotics to improve public services, boost operational efficiency, and reinforce the capital’s reputation as a global leader in sustainable urban innovation.
