Thailand Observes a Period of National Mourning with Grace and Unity

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 30. October 2025:

The Kingdom of Thailand has entered a period of deep reflection and reverence following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother; a figure whose compassion and steadfast devotion helped define modern Thai identity. In honour of her extraordinary life of service, the Royal Thai Government has declared an official mourning period beginning 25 October 2025.

For the next 30 days, national flags will fly at half-mast across government offices, state enterprises, and educational institutions. Civil servants and government employees will wear mourning attire for one year, while members of the public are encouraged to dress in black or subdued tones for 90 days. These gestures, while solemn, reflect the deep respect and affection felt nationwide for the late Queen Mother, whose contributions to welfare, arts, and the empowerment of Thai women remain unmatched.

Importantly, the Government has not ordered a suspension of public life. Entertainment, tourism, and business activities may continue, but with sensitivity and decorum. Organisers are encouraged to adapt formats and temper celebratory elements to align with the national mood. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has postponed festive programming during this time and will ensure that all official events reflect the dignity of the moment.

Visitors to Thailand are warmly welcomed during this period and will find the country fully open, with all attractions, transportation networks, restaurants, and shops operating as usual. Tourists are simply asked to dress respectfully, particularly when visiting temples, royal sites, or government facilities, and to share in the spirit of quiet respect that defines Thai culture in moments of national remembrance.

Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s enduring legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion to her people continues to shape the Thai way of life. As the nation unites to honour her memory, Thailand extends heartfelt gratitude to friends and visitors worldwide who join in this time of reflection.

For Thailand, mourning is not an interruption of life, it is an expression of grace, dignity, and unity, values that Her Majesty embodied and that continue to guide the Kingdom forward.
