Schools across the UAE have begun notifying parents of earlier Friday dismissal times, as campuses adjust schedules to align with the country’s newly unified Friday prayer timing.

Circulars and emails sent to families confirm that students will now be dismissed earlier on Fridays, with some schools releasing pupils from as early as 11.10am. In several cases, pick-up and transport schedules have been brought forward by up to 30 minutes to accommodate the change.

Private schools have informed parents that Friday classes will end no later than 11.30am from January 9, 2026. Many schools have shared detailed, campus-specific guidance covering revised lesson timings, dismissal procedures and transport arrangements.

In a notice to parents, GEMS Our Own Indian School said students using private transport will be dismissed between 11.10am and 11.20am, while school buses will depart at 11.20am. The school said the adjustment is intended to give students sufficient time to prepare for Friday prayers, adding that aligning school hours with religious obligations supports the development of strong values among students.

Jumeirah College confirmed that all students will be dismissed by 11.30am on Fridays. The school noted that lesson durations will be slightly reduced to allow for the earlier finish, while break times will remain unchanged in line with wellbeing considerations and regulatory requirements.

Similarly, Dubai International Academy – Emirates Hills informed families that both primary and secondary students will finish at 11.30am every Friday. Lessons will conclude by 11.20am, followed by a short pack-up period before dismissal, under a revised bell schedule.

Other schools said they had carefully balanced logistics with learning continuity. Al Sadiq Islamic English School told parents that school gates will open at 11.25am for collection. The school stressed that curriculum requirements will continue to be met and confirmed that attendance will still be recorded on Fridays.

Early dismissal notices are also being issued in Abu Dhabi. One private school informed parents that Friday classes will run from 8am to 11.30am for all students from Pre-KG to Grade 12, effective January 9, with updated timetables to follow.

Government schools have likewise been instructed to end the school day by 11.30am on Fridays. Authorities have already announced staggered start times across kindergarten and school cycles to ensure smooth operations.

The schedule changes follow the nationwide revision of Friday prayer timings to 12.45pm, which is 30 minutes earlier than the previous schedule.

Earlier, Knowledge and Human Development Authority said schools may seek approval to offer online learning on Fridays for students in Grade 6 (Year 7) and above, subject to parental consultation and regulatory clearance.

As the January 9 implementation date approaches, more schools across the UAE are expected to continue issuing updates to parents outlining their revised Friday schedules.
