Dubai’s economic growth agenda took a major step forward on Thursday as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched District IO, a new economic district designed to accelerate innovation and support emerging sectors of the economy.
Unveiled at Dubai Silicon Oasis, the project is expected to contribute more than Dh103 billion to the UAE’s gross domestic product over the next 10 years, reinforcing the country’s long-term economic diversification strategy.
District IO is envisioned as a technology-driven business ecosystem that will cater to future-focused industries. According to Sheikh Mohammed, the district will support more than 6,500 new companies and create opportunities for around 75,000 specialised professionals, positioning Dubai as a global hub for advanced economic activity.
Announcing the launch on social media platform X, Sheikh Mohammed said the initiative forms part of a broader package of new economic projects aimed at building a modern, competitive business environment aligned with global technological and innovation trends.
The District IO initiative reflects Dubai’s continued push to attract high-value businesses and talent, while strengthening its role as a regional and international centre for next-generation industries.
