The United Arab Emirates has reiterated its firm support for the State of Kuwait, affirming full solidarity with the Gulf nation in safeguarding its sovereignty and maritime rights.
In an official statement, the UAE stressed its unwavering backing for Kuwait in all measures taken to protect its legitimate rights and national interests, particularly in relation to its maritime territories.
Concern Over Iraq’s Submission to the United Nations
The UAE also voiced deep concern over the recent submission by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, which included a list of geographical coordinates and a map that could impact Kuwait’s maritime claims.
According to the statement, the UAE expressed strong objection to any potential implications arising from the submission that may affect Kuwait’s rights over its territorial waters and maritime areas, including the disputed zones of Fisht Al-Eid and Fisht Al-Eij.
Officials emphasized that any move perceived as infringing on Kuwait’s sovereignty or national interests remains a matter of serious concern.
Call for Dialogue and International Law Compliance
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined the importance of respecting long-standing fraternal ties between Iraq and Kuwait. It urged Iraqi authorities to approach the issue with responsibility and careful consideration of the historic relationship between the two neighboring states.
The Ministry called for the matter to be handled in accordance with international legal frameworks, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, alongside existing bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding between Iraq and Kuwait.
Furthermore, the UAE encouraged resolving any outstanding concerns through constructive dialogue and diplomatic channels. Officials highlighted that cooperative engagement remains essential to preserving regional stability and strengthening security across the Gulf.

The UAE’s position reflects its broader commitment to supporting Gulf Cooperation Council partners and promoting peaceful solutions to regional disputes.
