Light to moderate rainfall swept across parts of the UAE on Tuesday as an unstable weather system brought changing conditions to several emirates, including Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and parts of Abu Dhabi.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the rainfall is linked to a surface low-pressure system interacting with an upper-air trough, drawing moisture into the atmosphere and triggering cloud formation and scattered showers.
Authorities said the current system is significantly weaker than last week’s storm, which caused thunderstorms, lightning and waterlogging across multiple areas.
Unstable conditions continue into Wednesday
The NCM forecasts unsettled weather to persist through Wednesday, with partly cloudy to overcast skies and intermittent rainfall across the country. Eastern and northern regions, including Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and the Hajar Mountains, may experience heavier downpours at times.
Winds are expected to strengthen, blowing from the northwest at speeds of 15 to 25 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 45 km/h. These conditions could lead to blowing dust and reduced visibility, particularly in open inland areas.
Sea conditions are also set to deteriorate, with the Arabian Gulf becoming rough to very rough at times, while the Sea of Oman will see moderate to rough waves. Authorities have urged caution for maritime activities.
Gradual improvement from Thursday
Weather conditions are expected to stabilise from Thursday as the system weakens. Skies will turn fair to partly cloudy, although some eastern areas may still see lingering cloud cover in the morning.
Humidity levels are likely to rise overnight, increasing the chances of fog or mist formation, especially in coastal and inland areas.
Fair weather expected by Friday
By Friday, conditions across the UAE are forecast to return to normal, with generally fair to partly cloudy skies. Winds will ease, and sea conditions will become slight to moderate.
Safety advisory for residents
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during unstable weather. Motorists are urged to drive carefully on wet roads, maintain safe distances and avoid flood-prone areas. Coastal residents are also advised to stay clear of the shoreline during rough sea conditions and to follow official updates.
The NCM reiterated that the current weather system is short-lived, with conditions expected to improve steadily heading into the weekend.
