Dubai Airports has unveiled a striking new design for its Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at Dubai International Airport, turning one of the airport’s most iconic structures into a bold symbol of national identity.
The redesigned tower now prominently features the colours of the UAE flag, creating a visual statement for millions of passengers arriving in and departing from Dubai each year. The launch was marked with a ceremonial airside event, including a parade by Dubai Police, with the newly transformed tower serving as the backdrop.
Senior executives from Dubai Airports, operational teams and oneDXB partners attended the event, highlighting the teamwork and coordination that keep the world’s busiest international airport running around the clock.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, described the ATC tower as one of the most significant structures at DXB, where thousands of operational decisions are made daily to ensure aircraft movements, passenger safety and airport efficiency.
He said the redesign reflects the UAE’s ambition and recognises the efforts of the many teams and partners who contribute to DXB’s global connectivity.
Since opening with a single runway in 1960, DXB has grown into the world’s busiest international airport for international passengers. Standing 89 metres tall, the ATC tower has been a critical part of the airport’s operations since its expansion in 2000.
Known for its distinctive architectural design, the structure features a buttressed central column and curved wings resembling a futuristic bird. At its peak sits the advanced multi-level control centre, operated by Dubai Air Navigation Services, overseeing the smooth movement of aircraft at one of the world’s most active aviation hubs.
