Egypt, UAE Explore Deeper Cooperation in Electricity and Renewable Energy

Egypt and the UAE are seeking to expand cooperation and investment across the electricity and renewable energy sectors, with a focus on solar and wind power, battery storage and electricity grid development.

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, discussed potential areas of collaboration during a meeting with UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Al Zaabi.

Esmat highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two countries, describing their partnership as a strong example of constructive cooperation within the Arab world.

He also praised the contribution of UAE companies working with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and its affiliated organisations, particularly in projects supporting clean energy development and the diversification of energy sources.

Renewable Energy and Battery Storage Partnerships

According to Esmat, cooperation with UAE businesses has created several successful partnerships aligned with Egypt’s National Energy Strategy and wider energy transition plans.

These partnerships support Egypt’s efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix and expand the use of battery energy storage systems.

The government is also implementing measures to attract greater private-sector participation in solar and wind power projects, battery storage initiatives and the modernisation of the national electricity grid.

Esmat said upgrading the grid and increasing its capacity would allow Egypt to integrate additional electricity generation from renewable sources.

Private Sector to Support Egypt’s Energy Transition

UAE companies have become important partners in several Egyptian electricity projects, with renewable energy representing a key area of cooperation between the two countries.

Esmat stressed that private companies are central to implementing Egypt’s electricity sector strategy. The government is supporting private investment to help businesses play a greater role in the national economy and accelerate the country’s transition towards cleaner energy.

Private-sector companies are already leading several solar and wind energy projects across Egypt, contributing to the expansion and development of the country’s renewable energy sector.

UAE Ambassador Praises Bilateral Relations

Al Zaabi praised the strength of relations between Egypt and the UAE, describing them as a model of cooperation between Arab nations.

He highlighted the two countries’ deep historical and cultural connections, as well as their shared interests across a wide range of sectors. These ties, he said, continue to support growing partnerships in areas including investment and trade.
