Dubai, UAE — August 2026 — The South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, operated by DP World, recorded its highest monthly handling volume since operations began in 1999, processing more than 221,200 TEUs in July 2026. The milestone was driven by growing trade activity and continued investment in capacity, equipment and infrastructure.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the terminal also achieved its highest-ever monthly export volume during the same period, handling 79,720 TEUs. Notably, monthly throughput has now surpassed levels recorded before the disruptions to Red Sea shipping that began in late 2023.
Handling volumes for the first half of 2026 rose by approximately 79 percent compared to the same period last year, with growth spanning imports, exports and transshipment operations. The terminal received 390 vessels during the first six months of the year.
Ahmed Yousef Al Hassan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World for the GCC region, affirmed the company’s continued investment in expanding capacity and logistics connectivity to support smooth cargo flow and strengthen links between businesses and regional and global markets.
Recent investments at the terminal include the addition of three new quay cranes, bringing the total to 17, along with 17 automated electric rail-mounted gantry cranes, 35 electric terminal tractors, and 30 new trailers. The upgrades also encompassed the development of reefer container facilities and cold storage infrastructure.
