Dubai, UAE – Nov. 2026 – Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. has signed a landmark agreement with UAE technology group G42 and OpenAI, becoming the first energy company in the world to deploy OpenAI’s frontier technology, the company said.
The agreement was witnessed by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
The partnership will embed advanced AI across ADNOC’s energy operations, with the aim of improving decision-making, efficiency and productivity, and finding new ways to produce and deliver energy, the company said.
By combining AI reasoning with decades of industrial data and human expertise, the platform will help ADNOC teams optimize field master planning and link operational, capital and commercial decisions, unlocking greater value “from reservoir to market,” according to the company.
The platform will be powered by OpenAI’s GPT models and deployed on in-country inference infrastructure in the UAE. ADNOC said its experts will retain oversight of consequential decisions.
The deal marks a step toward ADNOC’s stated ambition of becoming the world’s most technology- and AI-enabled energy company.
Sheikh Khaled met OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and witnessed the signing of four agreements between Abu Dhabi entities and companies and OpenAI. The agreements are intended to expand the use of AI across the emirate in government services, energy, investment, business and education.
