Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, has issued a decision to form a new National Identity Committee aimed at strengthening and aligning the UAE’s national identity framework.
The committee will be chaired by Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-Chairperson of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council.
The move comes as part of efforts to activate the UAE’s National Identity Strategy, which was developed during the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025. The committee will operate under the umbrella of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council.
Unified national framework
According to the decision, the committee will oversee the implementation of the National Identity Strategy and ensure alignment between federal and local entities within a unified national framework. It will serve as the central reference point for all initiatives related to national identity, promoting coordination and integration while avoiding duplication of efforts.
The body will also define the pillars and core values of national identity and establish a national reference framework to guide related programmes and policies across the country.
In addition, the committee will develop initiatives in collaboration with relevant authorities and introduce a national index to measure levels of community engagement and pride in national identity. It will also supervise unified communication plans across media platforms to ensure consistent messaging.
Broad government representation
The committee brings together senior officials from several key entities, including the Ministry of Culture, National Media Authority, Presidential Office, Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, and the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, along with other government bodies.
The National Projects Office at the Presidential Court will act as the committee’s secretariat, providing administrative and strategic support.
The establishment of the National Identity Committee underscores the UAE’s continued focus on reinforcing shared values, cultural heritage, and community cohesion as part of its long-term development agenda.
