The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority has launched its annual “Safe Ramadan” campaign, stepping up safety awareness and inspections across the emirate during the holy month.

The initiative aims to reinforce safe practices at homes and public gathering spaces, ensuring the protection of lives and property as families come together for Iftar and Suhoor.

Focus on homes, kitchens and incident response

As part of the campaign, the Authority is expanding community outreach programmes, conducting field inspections and training members of the public on how to respond effectively in emergencies.

With cooking activity increasing significantly during Ramadan, officials are placing particular emphasis on kitchen safety. Residents are being advised to:

  • Clean kitchen exhaust systems regularly to remove grease buildup

  • Ensure smoke detectors and portable fire extinguishers are installed and functional

  • Learn how to use firefighting equipment in case of emergencies

  • Avoid overloading electrical sockets or using non-compliant extension leads

The Authority also cautioned against the risks of oil fires during frying and electrical fires caused by improper load distribution.

Strict safety standards for Ramadan tents

The campaign extends to Ramadan tents and public gathering areas, where operators are being reminded to comply with the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.

Civil Defence officials stressed the need for fully operational firefighting systems, working smoke detectors, adequate fire extinguishers and certified electrical installations that meet approved technical standards.

Tent operators have been urged to ensure all safety requirements are met before hosting large gatherings, particularly during peak evening hours.

Shared responsibility for a safer Ramadan

The Authority said the “Safe Ramadan” drive reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening preventive awareness and promoting a culture of safety as a shared responsibility.

By combining inspections, education and technical guidance, the campaign supports Abu Dhabi’s broader vision of building a safe and sustainable society throughout the holy month.
