ADNOC Drilling has announced the successful delivery of its first artificial intelligence-enabled “walking” island rig, marking a major milestone in the company’s efforts to advance drilling efficiency and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s energy sector.

The next-generation rig was delivered ahead of schedule, reinforcing ADNOC Drilling’s strategy to integrate cutting-edge technology into its operations while supporting the UAE’s broader energy ambitions.

Designed for enhanced mobility and operational precision, the walking rig can move between well slots without requiring dismantling, significantly reducing downtime and improving drilling productivity. The addition of AI-driven systems allows for real-time data analysis, predictive maintenance, and smarter decision-making, helping optimise performance and safety.

ADNOC Drilling said the deployment reflects its commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and operational excellence as it expands its fleet to meet growing energy demand.

The rig is expected to play a key role in ADNOC’s offshore and island drilling operations, where efficiency and speed are critical to maintaining production targets.

Company officials highlighted that early delivery of the rig demonstrates the strength of ADNOC Drilling’s partnerships with technology providers and equipment manufacturers, as well as its ability to accelerate strategic projects.

The move comes as ADNOC continues investing heavily in advanced drilling technologies, automation, and AI solutions to enhance hydrocarbon recovery while lowering costs and emissions.

With the new AI-enabled walking rig now operational, ADNOC Drilling is further positioning itself as a regional leader in energy innovation, supporting the UAE’s long-term vision for sustainable and efficient energy production.
