The 24th edition of the Airport Show, held from May 6 to 8, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, drew widespread worldwide support from the global aviation industry.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the massive growth opportunities in the aviation sector, particularly within the Middle East, as the region embarks on an ambitious expansion of its airport infrastructure.
The three-day show featured groundbreaking discussions, technological innovations, and numerous strategic partnerships, highlighting the need to invest in cutting-edge technologies to meet the industry’s growing demands.
Over 6,000 attendees worldwide participated in this year’s event, showcasing the significant interest in the opportunities arising from the Middle East’s expanding aviation market. The show brought together over 140 exhibitors from 22 countries and more than 150 buyers from over 70 organisations spanning 30 nations. These high numbers demonstrate the aviation sector’s buoyant outlook, fuelled by strong growth and positive market sentiment.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports, the event is widely regarded as one of the most influential aviation exhibitions globally. Organised by RX, a global event organiser, the show sought to provide participants with valuable insights into the technologies, trends, and challenges shaping the future of airports and aviation businesses worldwide.
A gathering of aviation leaders
The event’s significance was underscored by the participation of top-tier stakeholders from across the globe, including airport operators, aviation experts, and government regulators. With the aviation industry poised for significant expansion, particularly in the Middle East, the Airport Show has become a vital platform for shaping the sector’s future.

May Ismail, the Airport Show’s event manager, expressed her gratitude for the 2025 edition’s overwhelming success, stating, “I deeply appreciate all our strategic partners for contributing to this success. We have already begun preparations for next year’s event, ensuring it will be an even greater platform for innovation and collaboration.”
Several high-profile agreements, joint ventures, and memoranda of understanding were signed in the 2025 edition, further strengthening the ties between global aviation stakeholders. These partnerships are expected to advance the region’s infrastructure and technology capabilities, ensuring that Middle Eastern airports are prepared for future challenges and growth.
The Middle East’s aviation growth forecast
The aviation sector in the Middle East is experiencing rapid growth, driven by a robust recovery in air travel and an optimistic outlook for passenger numbers. According to industry projections, the region is expected to handle around 1.1 billion passengers annually by 2040, a leap from the 405 million passengers recorded in 2019.
To accommodate this surge in demand, Middle Eastern nations are heavily investing in airport infrastructure, with several major expansion projects already underway or in the planning stages.
This surge in airport development was a central theme at the 2025 Airport Show, where discussions focused on integrating next-generation technologies, air traffic management, and the challenges of incorporating autonomous vehicles, such as air taxis, into the aviation ecosystem. Experts also delved into smart air traffic management solutions, ensuring that airports can handle the anticipated increase in air traffic without compromising safety or efficiency.
The event’s strategic sessions addressed topics such as the role of next-generation airports as integrated logistics hubs, which are poised to play an increasingly central role in global supply chains. The growing need for smart airport technologies and automation to streamline operations was also highlighted as a key issue for industry leaders.
Innovations on display
In addition to the business meetings and strategic discussions, the Airport Show featured an impressive showcase of the latest innovations in airport technologies. New for this year were the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) Zone, Airport Tech Pavilion, and Airport Design Hub, which featured cutting-edge solutions for enhancing airport operations, efficiency, and sustainability.
One of the standout moments was the announcement that Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) had awarded a contract to Smiths Detection to deploy advanced checkpoint scanners at Dubai International Airport’s Terminals 1, 2, and 3. This high-profile project reflects the region’s commitment to enhancing airport security while embracing the latest technology to improve the passenger experience.
A look ahead
As the 2025 edition concluded, the excitement for next year’s event was palpable. The Airport Show’s organisers have already started preparations for the 25th edition, which is expected to be even larger, with broader participation from more countries and industry players. The event will be held from May 12 to 14, 2026, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, and it promises to bring together an even wider array of exhibitors and visitors.
The success of the 2025 edition has prompted many companies to commit to participating again in 2026, anticipating further opportunities for business development and collaboration. The 25th edition is expected to be a milestone event in the show’s history, building on the momentum generated by this year’s discussions and innovations.
Regional and global participation
A notable development at the 2025 show was the increased participation from African nations, with delegates, airlines, and airport operators from more than ten African countries in attendance. These nations want to expand their aviation sectors, with ambitious infrastructure projects planned through 2030. Their presence at the show underscores the global nature of the event and the growing importance of the Middle East as a hub for international aviation development.

The event also saw significant support from key aviation authorities and organisations, including the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, Emirates Airline, Dubai Air Navigation Services, and dnata. These bodies continue to play an essential role in developing the aviation industry in the Middle East and beyond.
