Cloudera transforms on-premises data experiences for trusted analytics and AI at scale
Open data lakehouse with Apache Iceberg for private clouds now available
Cloudera has launched the latest phase of its open data lakehouse on a private cloud. With the new rollout, the preferred data partner for the world’s most renowned companies has become the only provider to offer an open data lakehouse with Apache Iceberg for public and private clouds, thereby helping its customers unlock the enterprise AI potential of all their data.
Cloudera’s open data lakehouse solution facilitates secure data management and portable cloud-native data analytics, enabling organisations to manage and analyse data on public or private clouds.
Apache Iceberg is an open-source, high-performance table format for vast analytic tables. When applied to private clouds, the solution allows companies to tag AI to the immense amounts of mission-critical data in the cloud and on-premises, allowing them to create new use cases.
Facing constraints
With companies exploring Artificial Intelligence for potential implementation in 2024 and continuing to transition to Generative AI technologies, they face the added challenges of distributed data infrastructures, governance risks, and security concerns.
However, by now delivering Apache Iceberg for private cloud deployment, Cloudera now empowers enterprises to overcome these issues and quickly scale enterprise AI deployment to generate greater value.
Dipto Chakravarty, Chief Product Officer, Cloudera, said, “Cloudera’s mission is to empower customers to transform data anywhere into actionable insights by enabling it [data] with AI. By giving them a trusted data foundation for analytics, this next phase of cloud-native solutions unlocks endless possibilities for building innovative AI applications.”
Cloudera is now the only company capable of running a completely air-gapped large language model (LLM) deployment, providing its customers with enhanced security and data privacy, improved performance, and reduced operational costs.
Additional updates
Cloudera has also unveiled additional platform updates designed to deliver unprecedented business value to its customers.
The new updates include zero downtime upgrades (ZDU) and security enhancements such as Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 for increased business continuity and minimised interruptions; new Apache Ozone capabilities, such as quotas, snapshots, and disaster recovery enhancements that enable vastly greater scalability at a lower cost to service the voracious data consumption needs of advanced workloads; and expanded support for integrations including Python 3.10, RHEL 9.1, RHEL 8.8 FIPS, SLES 15 SP4, Oracle 8.8, and JDK 17 for increased compatibility and flexibility.
‘Essential format’
Matteo Carucci, Head of Data & Analytics, Eutelsat, a leading satellite operator, stated: “The [Apache] Iceberg community is vast and is growing fast. Cloudera’s open data lakehouse with Iceberg means we have an open table format with a lot of advanced functionality, which makes it easier to use and maintain our data. The open table format is essential because many users can easily access data with various tools.
“The open table format is a fundamental requirement because the company data is the property of the company itself, not a specific vendor. So, an open table format guarantees that whatever may happen with technology in the future, you have full ownership of your data. ”
Sanjeev Mohan, an established thought leader in cloud, big data and analytics (SanjMo), noted: “In this AI-powered era, we will continue to see formidable AI applications emerge that significantly increase the business value of enterprise data.
“For organisations to capitalise on this technological gold rush, data cannot be locked away in company data centres. Enterprises need a data management strategy that enables them to transform complex data anywhere into actionable insights through a comprehensive, open, and hybrid platform,” Mohan added.
Gartner Data & Analytics Summit
Cloudera will exhibit at booth #1534 at the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit, held from March 11 to 13, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, where attendees will get to engage with Cloudera experts on a one-on-one basis.
On March 12, at the same onsite event, Jake Bengston, Technical Evangelism Director, Cloudera, will lead the ‘Game-Changing Gen AI: Advancing from Pilot to Production at Enterprise Scale’ session.
Bengston’s session will cover the experiences of seasoned AI leaders from renowned global enterprises about lessons learned, best practices, and avoidable pitfalls.
The upcoming Gartner Data & Analytics Summit is the most important gathering for chief data analytics officers (CDAOs) and data and analytics (D&A) leaders aspiring to transform their organisations through the power of data, analytics, and AI.
