Concacaf and PIF to boost football across the Americas
Multi-year partnership signed
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth Public Investment Fund (PIF) have signed a strategic, multi-year partnership to enhance football development and increase the sport’s accessibility across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean region.
The newly formed alliance will see PIF finance a range of Concacaf tournaments, including men’s, women’s, and youth national team and club competitions.
The partnership, formalised on August 15, 2024, is set to invigorate the sport at all levels. It aims to inspire a new generation of players and fans while elevating the profile of Concacaf’s flagship events.
The partnership is pivotal for football in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Significant tournaments are on the horizon, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will jointly host.
PIF’s investment will boost these events and support the expansion of youth and grassroots football initiatives across Concacaf’s 41 member federations.
Sponsorship strategy
PIF’s involvement aligns with its broader sponsorship strategy, emphasising inclusivity, sustainability, youth development, and technological advancement.
PIF’s funding will help Concacaf enhance its youth championships, including the under-15, under-17, and under-20 tournaments for both men and women. These competitions are crucial pathways to the FIFA U17 and U20 World Cups, offering emerging talents invaluable exposure and opportunities.
Victor Montagliani, President of Concacaf and FIFA Vice President, said: “We are very pleased to announce this new strategic partnership, which will support the confederation in developing all levels of football across our region. With major Concacaf competitions on the horizon and the upcoming FIFA World Cup in our region, this partnership comes at an exciting time for football.”
Mohammed AlSayyad, Head of Corporate Brand at PIF, added: “We are delighted to partner with Concacaf as the confederation enters an exciting period. Our joint efforts will create a positive and lasting impact across all Concacaf competitions. This partnership underscores our commitment to investing in sport and fostering growth in key areas.”
Additionally, the partnership will enhance existing Concacaf initiatives such as the ‘Bigger Game’ programme. This initiative leverages football’s popularity to deliver sports and education programs in local communities, build partnerships, and amplify the voices of beneficiaries.
With this landmark agreement, Concacaf and PIF are set to drive football’s growth and development and leave a lasting legacy across the Americas.
