Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have started supplying natural gas from the Khor Mor field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, supporting electricity generation at the Kirkuk Taza power station.
Under an agreement signed with the ministry in December, the companies will supply 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from the Khor Mor gas processing facility for an initial period of one year.
Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum jointly operate the Kurdistan Gas Project. The new supply arrangement is expected to help improve power generation capacity and strengthen electricity services across Iraq.
The delivery follows the completion of the KM250 expansion project, which was commissioned in October 2025. The expansion increased Khor Mor’s gas production capacity by 50 percent, raising output to 750 million standard cubic feet per day.
The additional capacity has allowed the partners to enter new markets and transport natural gas by pipeline from the Khor Mor facility to other parts of Iraq.
Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Managing Director of the Board of Dana Gas, described the first delivery to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity as an important milestone for the companies and the development of the Kurdistan Region’s gas sector.
He said the project would help meet Iraq’s growing electricity demand and improve public services, while thanking the Kurdistan Regional Government, local authorities in Sulaymaniyah and the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity for their support.
Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas, said the agreement demonstrates the benefits of the companies’ ongoing expansion programme.
He added that the additional capacity created by the KM250 project could support further energy cooperation in Iraq, strengthen energy security and contribute to more reliable electricity supplies.
The Khor Mor gas project currently provides fuel for more than 80 percent of electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region. It supports affordable electricity for more than eight million people across the region and other Iraqi governorates.
Total investment in the project has exceeded US$4 billion, while its operations have created more than 47,000 direct and indirect jobs. The companies expect the project’s economic and energy-sector impact to increase as additional capacity and new developments come online.
