At exactly 6:30pm, the calm waters of Burj Lake erupted in a symphony of light, music, and motion. After five months of silence, the world-famous Dubai Fountain made its grand return, captivating crowds who gathered at the base of the Burj Khalifa to witness its spectacular comeback.
A Downtown Landmark Restored
Developed by Emaar, the Dubai Fountain has once again reclaimed its place as the beating heart of Downtown Dubai. Submerged in the 30-acre Burj Lake, the attraction stretches the length of two football pitches and can propel more than 22,000 gallons of water up to 140 metres in the air.
Since its debut in May 2009, the fountain has been one of the most visited free attractions in the city, offering choreographed shows that blend water, light, and music into a breathtaking nightly performance.
What’s New After Renovation
The latest revamp has introduced striking new details, most notably a gleaming floor of blue tiles that shimmer beneath the water, giving the entire show a fresh visual dimension. Behind the scenes, state-of-the-art upgrades have been made to the lighting, infrastructure, and choreography systems, ensuring smoother and more precise performances.
Programming a single song is no small feat. According to Emaar, the process can take weeks, with robotics technology used to synchronise water jets, lighting, and projections to music with split-second accuracy.
The Soundtrack of the City
Designed by California-based WET Design the same team behind Las Vegas’ Bellagio Fountains the Dubai Fountain has earned global fame for its eclectic playlists. Over the years, it has showcased everything from classical and contemporary Arabic melodies to global pop anthems.
The fountain has also experimented with innovative features, including fire effects in 2010 and special themed shows, such as the DHL-sponsored 2011 performance set to Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
Where to Watch the Show
Spectators are spoiled for choice when it comes to vantage points. Popular viewing spots include the Dubai Mall promenade, Souk Al Bahar, and Burj Park. Many nearby restaurants and cafés also offer front-row seats to the spectacle.
For those seeking a closer look, the Dubai Fountain Boardwalk a 272-metre walkway across Burj Lake brings visitors just nine metres away from the dancing jets. Alternatively, guests can take the Dubai Fountain Lake Ride, aboard a traditional wooden abra, for Dh73.25 per person.
