Dubai: Dubai Police has issued an urgent reminder for motorists to drive carefully as dense fog continues to reduce visibility across the Emirate. The force noted that low-visibility conditions are among the leading causes of multi-vehicle crashes, often resulting in severe injuries and significant property damage when drivers fail to follow safety guidelines.
Brigadier Jumaa bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, urged drivers to stay alert during seasonal weather changes, especially as fog becomes more frequent at this time of year. He encouraged commuters to monitor official weather updates before heading out to help reduce the risk of serious road incidents.
Brig. bin Suwaidan explained that many fog-related accidents happen when motorists fail to slow down or keep a safe distance, or when they continue driving despite extremely limited visibility. He warned that these crashes can quickly escalate into major pile-ups with tragic outcomes.
Dubai Police advised drivers to follow essential safety measures, including lowering speed, switching on vehicle lights during early morning hours, avoiding unnecessary lane changes and refraining from overtaking. Motorists were also reminded not to use high beams in fog, as they can obstruct the vision of others, and not to activate hazard lights while the car is in motion. Drivers were encouraged to stay focused, avoid blocking traffic in case of minor accidents and give themselves extra time for their journey.
The force confirmed that traffic patrols will step up their presence on highways and external roads to ensure motorists reduce speed and to prevent vehicles from stopping on road shoulders, a common factor in secondary collisions. Brig. bin Suwaidan added that patrols will also redirect heavy vehicles to designated rest areas and temporarily restrict truck movement during fog to reduce risks linked to slow-moving traffic.
