Emirates SkyCargo orders 5 Boeing 777 Freighters

As global air cargo demand spikes

Emirates SkyCargo has placed a firm order for five Boeing 777 Freighters to meet burgeoning global air cargo demand. This move effectively doubles Emirates’ 777 Freighter order book to 10, underscoring its position as a leader in air cargo logistics.

Emirates SkyCargo, Emirates Airlines’ freight division, has positioned itself at the forefront of the air cargo industry by opting for the Boeing 777 Freighter, known for its efficiency and robust capabilities.

This strategic investment is part of Emirates’ broader fleet renewal programme, which aims to enhance operational capacity and efficiency amid increasing demand for air cargo services worldwide.

By 2026, Emirates SkyCargo anticipates a 30% increase in main deck cargo capacity, bolstered by the enhanced capabilities of the 777 Freighter. This expansion will bring Emirates’ total freighter fleet to 17 aircraft, encompassing 777 Freighters, converted 777 freighters, and 747 Freighters.

The Boeing 777 Freighter stands out for its extended range of 9,200 kilometres (4,970 nautical miles) and a maximum payload of 102 metric tons (112 tons), making it the preferred choice for operators seeking efficient, long-haul cargo solutions.

These capabilities enable nonstop flights linking major global markets such as the Middle East, the United States, and Europe, facilitating the transport of high-value goods without refuelling.

“The decision to expand our fleet with more Boeing 777 Freighters aligns with our commitment to deliver world-class cargo solutions to meet escalating customer demand,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group.

He emphasised the significance of this investment amidst Dubai’s Economic Agenda, which seeks to elevate the city’s stature as a pivotal global trading hub.

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “We are honoured that Emirates SkyCargo, known for operational excellence and innovation, has once again chosen Boeing to support their ambitious growth strategy.”

Boeing is the dominant global cargo aircraft market leader, providing over 90% of dedicated freighter capacity worldwide, including new production and converted aircraft.

The Boeing 777 Freighter, with over 265 deliveries to date, stands as Boeing’s best-selling freighter aeroplane, embodying a legacy of performance and reliability in air cargo transport.
