Lufthansa Cargo Extends IATA CargoIS Agreement

Relationship Spans Over A Decade

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has officially confirmed that Lufthansa Cargo will continue its longstanding partnership, extending and broadening the scope of its use of CargoIS for air cargo intelligence needs.

This marks a significant continuation of a relationship that has already spanned over a decade, reflecting a deep-seated commitment to leveraging data for strategic and operational advancement in the air freight sector.

Ashwin Bhat, the Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Cargo, expressed enthusiasm about the renewed agreement, highlighting the pivotal role that CargoIS’s market intelligence has played in the company’s strategic planning and operational enhancements.

“The extended collaboration allows us to refine our shipping strategies further and ensures that we remain at the cutting edge of the industry, driven by robust, data-led decision-making,” Bhat stated.

Under the refreshed agreement, Lufthansa Cargo will also participate in the IATA CargoIS Direct Data (CDD) contribution programme.

Air Cargo Landscape

This initiative promotes the anonymised sharing and pooling of data amongst member airlines, enhancing the ability to benchmark performance, spot industry trends, and make informed decisions within the fiercely competitive air cargo landscape.

The programme benefits from including transactions from over 230 carriers, offering unparalleled insights into transported commodities and rendered services.

Willie Walsh, the Director General and CEO of IATA, commented on the extension of the partnership, underlining the collaboration’s mutual benefits.

“Our decade-long relationship with Lufthansa Cargo on market intelligence underscores the value of IATA’s cargo data solutions and trust in our data intelligence capabilities.

“The continued and expanded partnership is a testament to the importance of data-driven insights in bolstering efficiency and sustainability within the air cargo industry,” Walsh noted.

IATA’s CargoIS platform offers detailed market intelligence on the air cargo industry, covering over 80,000 unique city-to-city trade lanes.

It provides critical insights into market dynamics for airlines, freight forwarders, airports, and shippers, transforming vast data sets into actionable intelligence.

This enables stakeholders to navigate the complexities of the air cargo market more efficiently, securing a competitive edge and achieving operational excellence.
