BMW ALPINA automobiles combine exceptional high-speed performance with outstanding comfort – and a focus on long-distance journeying. In line with this commitment, the first BMW ALPINA production model – still covered in camouflage wrap – has been put through its paces on the high-speed circuit in Nardò. The 12.6-kilometre track in southern Italy is one of the world’s most renowned and important automotive test tracks. The perfect place to demonstrate the performance capabilities of vehicles from the new, exclusive BMW Group brand, and to show how the promise of
“Speed, not Sport” is brought to life. Speed has always been baked into the ALPINA brand’s DNA. However, we are not just interested in top speed alone. What matters is how natural, stable and confident it feels to drive at that speed,” said Oliver Viellechner, Vice President of BMW ALPINA
A BMW ALPINA hallmark: the harmonious interaction of engine and chassis.
That is why the high-speed tests in Nardò place the utmost emphasis on the harmonious interaction of all components. It is about more than just the V8 engine’s masterful power delivery, with its immediate, yet always refined responses and plenty of power on tap at all times. And of course, the first BMW ALPINA production model also has to have a dynamic yet comfortable suspension set-up along with an aerodynamically optimised body.
Iconic details are another important consideration. Take the 20-spoke light alloy wheels – developed in conjunction with specific tyres, so each wheel is a precisely matched unit. A special feature of these tyres is an additional foam layer, which, as well as enabling top speeds, also ensures exceptional precision and driving comfort, for maximum safety.
Powerful, confident, composed.
The exhaust system featuring four oval tailpipes is another distinctive BMW ALPINA hallmark. Its rich, deep sound provides an indication of the powerful performance to come. Maximum torque is available across virtually the entire rev range. Special engine management calibration and accelerator pedal mapping help to achieve smooth power delivery without making the car feel aggressive. The transmission tuning has been optimised to match the higher maximum engine speeds and increased power output.
The result can be viewed on YouTube. A short video provides more detailed information on the sophisticated technology used in the first BMW ALPINA production model and shows how it accelerates past the 300 km/h mark. The new BMW ALPINA in Nardò – follow the evolution of a vehicle for connoisseurs who appreciate the exceptional.
