Infiniti unveils 2026 QX80 with new Sport trim

Delivery begins this summer

Japanese carmaker Infiniti has launched the 2026 QX80, introducing a new Sport grade in a move to expand its appeal within the competitive full-size luxury SUV segment.

The updated model will begin reaching dealerships globally, including in Arabian Gulf markets, by late summer 2025.

Prices will start from $83,750, with the top-tier Autograph grade priced at $111,500, excluding destination charges.

The 2026 QX80 retains the platform introduced in last year’s redesign, but the newly added Sport grade brings a more aggressive exterior and updated cabin materials. The SUV features a restyled front end, dark chrome detailing, and exclusive 22-inch wheels. Inside, the Sport trim includes a dark blue interior, open-pore wood accents and perforated leather seating. Though the visual changes are significant, the vehicle’s performance specifications remain consistent across most grades.

The same 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine powers all QX80 models, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine, known as the VR35DDTT, replaces the older V8 and aims to strike a balance between power and fuel efficiency. While official regional fuel consumption data is not yet available, Infiniti claims improved performance over the previous generation.

The QX80 arrives in Middle Eastern markets, particularly the UAE and Saudi Arabia, markets that continue to show strong demand for large, luxury SUVs. According to figures from Statista, SUV sales in the GCC are projected to reach over 560,000 units annually by 2026, up from approximately 430,000 in 2022. High-income households, road infrastructure and off-road driving culture have all contributed to this trend.

Gulf buyers in particular have shown a preference for premium SUVs offering both off-road capability and urban comfort. Brands such as Lexus, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz continue to compete for market share, and Infiniti’s latest update appears aimed at maintaining relevance in this segment.

In a market where visual distinction and ride comfort are key differentiators, the QX80 Sport’s darker aesthetic may appeal to customers seeking an understated yet high-end look.

The vehicle is offered in four grades: Pure, Luxe, Sport and Autograph. All variants come equipped with dual 14.3-inch digital displays, Google built-in apps, a Klipsch premium audio system, and ProPILOT Assist – Infiniti’s semi-autonomous driving technology.

Advanced features like a head-up display, climate-controlled seating, and biometric cooling are available in higher trims. Massaging seats are now extended to the second row in the Autograph grade, reflecting growing consumer expectations for rear-seat luxury.

Despite the high base price, standard features across all trims suggest the QX80 is positioned to compete with other large SUVs such as the BMW X7, Mercedes GLS, and the Lexus LX600. The addition of Google services and over-the-air software updates indicates a push to modernise Infiniti’s tech offering in a rapidly evolving segment.

In the UAE, luxury SUVs make up a sizeable portion of total new car sales, with consumers prioritising space, safety and technology. Analysts suggest that features like remote-control rear seats, 3D surround-view monitoring and second-row HVAC controls could influence buyer decisions in high-end markets.

Strong dealership networks in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have supported Infiniti’s presence in the region. Still, the brand continues to face challenges from German and Korean competitors offering increasingly tech-focused alternatives. The QX80, particularly in its Sport grade, appears aimed at reasserting the brand’s luxury credentials.

The 2026 QX80 will be available in colours including Mineral Black, Radiant White, Grand Blue and Dynamic Metal, with selected models offering two-tone paint options. Destination and handling fees for all trims are set at $2,190.

Infiniti has not disclosed production numbers or market allocation by region. However, given the Middle East’s consistent appetite for high-end SUVs, local dealerships are expected to receive early deliveries ahead of broader global distribution.

Search engine traffic related to full-size SUVs, luxury SUVs in the UAE, and 2026 car releases has risen in recent months, reflecting sustained consumer interest in premium vehicles across the region.
