Heavy Israeli air strikes overnight have caused significant destruction across the southern suburbs of Beirut, leaving damaged buildings, debris-covered streets and thick smoke rising from several neighbourhoods.
Images and videos circulating online show extensive damage in the densely populated district, which is widely regarded as a stronghold of Hezbollah. The strikes came shortly after Israel issued an unprecedented evacuation warning covering the entire southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.
The warning led to a mass exodus late on Thursday, with tens of thousands of residents rushing to leave the area. Families were seen fleeing the district in panic, attempting to reach safer locations before the bombardment began.
According to Lebanese state media, several residential areas in the southern suburbs were hit during the overnight strikes. Multiple explosions were reported as the bombardment continued across different neighbourhoods.
Emergency response teams have since begun assessing the scale of the destruction, while many residents continue to leave affected areas amid fears of further attacks.
The latest strikes come as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to escalate, with cross-border exchanges intensifying in recent days and raising concerns about a broader regional confrontation.
