Mubadala Energy targets doubling production over next decade, with natural gas driving growth

Mubadala Energy plans to double its production over the next 10 years, with natural gas expected to account for approximately 70 percent of its portfolio as the company expands its international operations and strengthens its position in global energy markets.

Adnan Bu Fateem, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Mubadala Energy, outlined the company’s growth strategy in statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of ADIPEC 2026.

He said the company’s focus is on achieving disciplined growth, improving operational efficiency and ensuring reliable energy supplies while responding to increasing global demand.

Mubadala Energy is pursuing investment opportunities across the natural gas value chain, particularly projects that connect competitive gas resources with long-term customers.

Expansion across key international markets

The company is strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia, North America and the Eastern Mediterranean through strategic investments and gas development projects.

In Malaysia, Mubadala Energy recently increased production capacity at its operated Pegaga gas field and continues to assess further expansion opportunities.

In Indonesia, the company is advancing development of the Tangkulo gas discovery, building on its exploration activities in the Andaman Sea.

Meanwhile, its investment in US-based Caturus LLC provides exposure to natural gas production in the Haynesville Basin and the Commonwealth liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

The Commonwealth LNG project reached a Final Investment Decision in May 2026. Its initially planned annual capacity of 9.5 million tonnes could increase to 16 million tonnes under recently announced expansion plans.

In Egypt, Mubadala Energy has completed the acquisition of a 15 percent interest in the Nargis Offshore Area, adding to its existing investments in the Zohr and Nour concessions.

Bu Fateem said these investments support the development of a diversified portfolio built around strategic partnerships, reliable infrastructure and access to international energy markets.

Pegaga production capacity increases by 30%

Mubadala Energy currently operates across 10 countries, managing seven producing assets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean and the United States.

One of its recent operational achievements is the expansion of the Pegaga gas project in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Offshore platform upgrades were completed within 10 months of project approval, increasing production capacity by 30 percent to 750 million standard cubic feet per day.

The additional output strengthens natural gas supplies to Malaysia’s Bintulu LNG complex.

According to Bu Fateem, the project demonstrates how engineering improvements, advanced technology and efficient project execution can increase production from existing energy infrastructure.

He added that the expansion work was completed without injuries or operational incidents.

Indonesia gas discoveries support future growth

Indonesia remains a central part of Mubadala Energy’s long-term expansion plans.

The company’s operated Layaran and Tangkulo discoveries in South Andaman contain more than 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas resources.

These discoveries are expected to play an important role in Mubadala Energy’s strategy to convert exploration successes into commercially producing assets.

Bu Fateem said the company is entering a new phase focused on transforming recent discoveries and investments into projects capable of delivering dependable energy supplies over the long term.

The United States also represents an important growth market, with the Caturus investment creating opportunities for further expansion across North America.

Mubadala Energy reports 30.9% reduction in emissions

Alongside production growth, Mubadala Energy is strengthening its environmental performance through operational improvements and the adoption of advanced technologies.

The company reported a 30.9 percent reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions in 2025.

Its sustainability initiatives include improving energy efficiency, reducing gas flaring, managing methane emissions and strengthening equipment reliability.

Digital transformation is also playing an increasingly important role in the company’s operations.

Predictive maintenance systems and real-time monitoring technologies are being used to identify potential technical problems, minimise downtime and improve resource management.

At the Pegaga project, Mubadala Energy has introduced Digital Twin technology to provide real-time information about wells, reservoirs and maintenance requirements.

The system enables operational teams to make faster decisions while improving asset performance and reliability.

Bu Fateem said the company regularly evaluates its environmental performance through established monitoring, reporting and verification processes.

Mubadala Energy also publishes annual sustainability reports outlining its environmental achievements and progress towards long-term sustainability objectives.

The company’s expansion strategy reflects its ambition to increase natural gas production while maintaining operational reliability, improving efficiency and supporting energy security across its international markets.
