Motorists travelling between Dubai and Sharjah endured a slow and frustrating Thursday morning after multiple traffic incidents triggered major congestion across key highways.
The worst-hit routes were Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, where a series of accidents caused long tailbacks during peak hours. Traffic monitoring platforms showed extensive congestion, with several stretches reduced to near standstill conditions as emergency teams worked to clear the affected lanes.
Key bottlenecks in Dubai
In Dubai, gridlock extended beyond E311, with several major corridors experiencing heavy delays.
Ras Al Khor Road saw slow-moving traffic near Za’abeel Second, compounded by ongoing infrastructure works around the Nad Al Hamar intersection. Commuters reported extended travel times as vehicles merged through narrowed lanes.
On Beirut Street, motorists navigating the Al Qusais Industrial Area stretch faced significant hold-ups, particularly during early office hours.
Meanwhile, parts of Emirates Road near Aleyas also experienced heavy congestion. The route, often used by heavy vehicles, witnessed additional pressure following daytime movement restrictions, pushing more traffic onto alternative corridors.
Sharjah commuters hit by delays
Traffic conditions were similarly challenging in Sharjah, especially for residents heading towards Dubai.
Al Ittihad Street recorded bumper-to-bumper traffic through the Al Khalidiya district, a well-known choke point during weekday rush hours as vehicles funnel towards the Dubai border.
Further inland, Third Industrial Street was reported as heavily congested through Industrial Area 3. The Sharjah segment of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road also remained sluggish near Industrial Area 11.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, maintain safe distances and consider alternative routes where possible as traffic conditions gradually return to normal.
