Panasonic Launches Pioneering Auto-Focus Enabled Box-style 4K Multi-Purpose Camera

Panasonic has announced the launch of its AK-UBX100, a next-generation box-style 4K multi-purpose camera, which shares the same 2/3” bayonet lens mount platform as the AK-UCX100 4K studio camera introduced last year. The AK-UBX100 is designed to deliver seamless integration, advanced operability, and outstanding imaging performance, and is the world’s first*1 Auto-Focus (AF) system camera, while the feature will be available via a firmware update (FWUP) initially available in the AK-UCX100 in December 2025.

This breakthrough makes it possible to achieve fast and stable focus across multiple lenses and shooting conditions, greatly simplifying workflows and supporting operators of all skill levels. The newly developed AF system, delivered via firmware update, enables precise target acquisition and incremental adjustment of position, size, and speed of the focus area. Even experienced operators benefit from the one-push AF support, which allows rapid subject capture before fine manual adjustments. This functionality ensures smooth, high-quality focus control in complex live production settings.

The AK-UBX100 incorporates the same core design, shared menu interface, and remote operation panel (ROP) compatibility as the AK-UCX100 4K studio camera, enabling easy colour matching and unified operability across devices, including the AW-UE160 4K PTZ camera.

Weighing only approx. 1.9kg with a flat, compact body design, AK-UBX100 supports multiple IP protocols, including SMPTE ST 2110, NDI®, SRT, and 12G-SDI, and two SFP+/28 ports. It also includes moiré reduction technology with an HD optical low-pass filter*2, ensuring high-quality results in diverse production scenarios. The camera is ideal for robotic camera setups and versatile shooting environments, significantly improving manoeuvrability and flexibility on set.

The firmware update enabled AF function for the AK-UCX100, which will also enhance the upgrade Low Skew Mode function, Expansion of Video TRUNK function (support for 12G-SDI output on TRUNK IN terminal), Automatic correction for F-drop and peripheral light falloff, and Remote back focus adjustment.

With these launches, Panasonic continues to pioneer innovations in professional imaging technology, offering creators the tools, flexibility, and reliability needed to achieve expressive, broadcast-quality video production.
