Tons of Relief Supplies Flood Pakistan as UAE President Gives Orders for Humanitarian Aid

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President, issued directives for delivering relief supplies to Pakistan on the 27th of August, 2022. These supplies are indeed timely following the natural disaster that has raged the country, causing several deaths and injuries.

What are the Details of the Natural Disaster?

Pakistan, located in the South of Asia, has been engulfed in raging floods due to the rainfalls caused by the Monsoon season. The season began almost three months ago and has resulted in harsh effects with more than 900 deaths, 1,290 causalities, and more than three million displacements. The country has also recorded considerable losses in properties and infrastructures.

Several organizations and countries have pitched in to supply much-needed humanitarian aid to the government. Unfortunately, there is no change in sight as the flood continues to rage due to the season. Unlike the previous Monsoon season, this year’s has mainly been severe primarily due to the global climate crisis and change. This year’s flooding is almost at par with the deadliest flood in the country’s history in 2010. Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are the regions with the most brutal hits.

In collaboration with several humanitarian organizations, the Pakistan government has issued global pleas to the international committee for assistance in these trying times. The government estimates at least $10 billion to resolve the flood’s infrastructural problems. While the International Monetary Fund has issued $1.1 billion in aid to the country, it is not nearly enough to eliminate the challenges in Pakistan. Undoubtedly, governments need to step up to offer much-needed humanitarian assistance.

What are the Specifics of the Humanitarian Aid?

To proffer continental aid and serve as a model to other countries, the United Arab Emirates has taken a core step of providing supplies to Pakistan to mitigate the effects of the floods. The collections consist of 3,000 tons of edibles and loads of medical and pharmaceutical supplies. The country also supplied shelter equipment like tents and other materials to assist displaced persons in Pakistan. UAE’s aid also includes personnel as the government has deployed relief teams for logistical and health assistance.

While reaching out to Shehbaz Sharif (Pakistan’s Prime Minister), the UAE President expressed his condolences and reaffirmed UAE’s support and assistance in the difficult times plaguing Pakistan. He also commended the efforts and support of the UAE Red Crescent and the contributions of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Foundation, which was established to provide aid in flooded areas in the country. In response, Shehbaz Sharif filed the President in on the happening related to the flood in Pakistan.

Conclusion

UAE’s timely contribution to mitigating the flood’s effects shows its commitment to providing world aid to countries in need. Indeed, it has set the pace for humanitarian assistance in Pakistan’s dire time of need. More so, the efforts of the UAE are remarkably commendable as it is a statement of its stance on discouraging global climate change.
