Dubai, UAE — February 2026 — The Central Bank of the UAE has issued a special collection of gold and silver commemorative coins to mark the fifth anniversary of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the release celebrates the university’s pioneering journey since welcoming its first students in 2020 and its achievements in advancing artificial intelligence.

The 50-gram gold coin features the MBZUAI Knowledge Centre on its obverse, accompanied by the years “2020” and “2025.” The design includes the inscription “Power from Knowledge to Serve” and the university’s name in Arabic and English, along with its logo. The reverse side displays the UAE national emblem, encircled by the Central Bank’s name in both languages.
Similarly, the silver coin depicts the Knowledge Centre with the anniversary dates, enhanced by geometric motifs and surrounded by the university’s name and logo. Its reverse shows the nominal value of “AED50” with the Central Bank’s inscription. The limited edition comprises 10 gold coins and 500 silver coins.
These coins are part of the university’s fifth-anniversary celebrations, underscoring its role in the AI, science, and human development ecosystem and reinforcing the UAE’s global leadership in innovation. The coins have been presented to MBZUAI and will not be available for public sale.
Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, assistant governor for Banking Operations and Support Services at CBUAE, stated: “The issuance of this commemorative coin reflects our commitment to highlighting national initiatives in education and recognising the role played by MBZUAI since its establishment as an advanced model of specialised academic institutions, supporting the UAE’s vision of building a knowledge‑ and innovation‑driven economy.”
President of MBZUAI, Eric Xing said: “The issuance of the commemorative coins by the Central Bank of the UAE is a profound recognition of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence’s role in the nation’s strategic evolution.”
He added: “As we mark our fifth anniversary, we are proud to be part of the UAE’s success in embedding artificial intelligence at the heart of its national agenda. It is an honour for our journey toward becoming a global epicentre for AI research and higher education to be recognised through a historic tradition, one that bridges the heritage of the Emirates with the frontier of future technology.”
