The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has partnered with Microsoft to develop advanced AI agents aimed at supporting university students in the UAE, from personalised learning journeys to clearer pathways into the job market.
Under the collaboration, the ministry and Microsoft will leverage Microsoft Azure and cloud-based AI technologies to research and develop prototype AI agents designed to enhance higher education outcomes in line with the UAE’s national priorities.
Dr Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said the initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its position as a global hub for innovation and advanced research. He noted that strategic partnerships with global technology leaders help ensure that education, research, and innovation efforts remain closely aligned with national development goals.
Four prototype AI agents were unveiled as part of the initiative. These include a Lifelong Learning and Skills Progression agent to guide students through in-demand skills and career pathways, a Faculty Enablement and Course Co-Creation agent to support curriculum updates and industry-aligned course design, a Student Personalised Learning agent to help learners progress at their own pace, and a Research Mission Alignment agent to link academic research with national missions and real-world challenges.
As part of the agreement, the ministry and Microsoft will also explore further opportunities for collaboration in data analytics, machine learning, and AI, while adopting a participatory design approach that involves students, faculty members, and industry stakeholders.
Amr Kamel, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, said agentic AI represents a major opportunity for the public sector, particularly in education, by enabling more dynamic and personalised learning experiences. He added that adopting such technologies will help equip students and educators to thrive in a rapidly changing global environment, while reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leader in innovation and the knowledge economy.
The collaboration underscores the ministry’s openness to private sector partnerships focused on innovation, with the goal of building an interconnected education ecosystem that prepares students with future-ready skills for the evolving labour market.
