The Light Middle East Awards winners were announced yesterday evening at a prestigious ceremony at Palazzo Versace Hotel in Dubai. Attended by lighting professionals from around the world, the event recognised outstanding lighting projects regionally and internationally, celebrating the brightest minds in the industry.
Light Touch PLD was under the spotlight on the evening, winning two categories for their work on Atlantis The Royal. The Dubai-based architectural, interior and landscape lighting design company picked up the ‘Project of the Year Middle East – Hotel’ award and the highly coveted ‘Project of the Year – The Ultimate Award’ category.
The co-winners for the highly anticipated ‘Project of the Year – International’ category were Light-To-Light for The Church of Our Lady of Laeken in Brussels, and Entra ASA, Void and LEDFlex Group for their collective efforts on Delta in Oslo.
Commenting on the awards and the winning entries, Abdul Muhsin, Show Director of Light + Intelligent Building Middle East, said: “Since the Light Middle East Awards began ten years ago, the ceremony has attracted worldwide attention from the lighting industry, as evidenced by the unprecedented number of international entries we received this year. The winners were ultimately selected for achieving outstanding quality and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in lighting design. We extend our congratulations to them all for their industry-leading projects.”
The lighting design of three Dubai-based restaurants was celebrated at the ceremony, co-winning the ‘Project of the Year MEA – Restaurant’ category. FPOV won the award for their work on Ling Ling Dubai, while Light Touch PLD and Studio Lumen were recognised for Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Chic Nonna, respectively.
The ‘Project of the Year MEA – Public Space’ category was awarded to GLARE for the Islamic Arts Biennale, while the ‘Project of the Year MEA – Cultural Heritage’ award was secured by Lighting Design Partnership International for the Oman Across Ages Museum. Meanwhile, Studio Mark secured the ‘Project of the Year MEA – Work Place’ award for the Fairmont HQ, Accor Headquarters in Dubai.
The ‘Decorative Product of the Year’ was won by Cattelani & Smith srl for Enso, while the ‘Indoor Lighting Product of the Year’ was awarded to ERCO Lighting for Quinta. The E-Framer product by VICE LIGHTING DWC picked up two awards on the evening, including the ‘Peer Award’ and the ‘Outdoor Lighting Product of the Year’ category, alongside co-winners the Linea Light Group for D-Wave. Rounding out the awards, Skandal Technologies won ‘Intelligent Lighting Solution of the Year’ for POET Creator Software.
Light + Intelligent Building Middle East took place from 16-18 January under the theme: ‘Enlightened Futures: How responsibility will guide the future of Light and Buildings’. Now in its 17th edition, the exhibition is part of a global network of Light + Building Technology fairs.
