2 Formula E drivers step into sambaland gaiety

Ahead of race day start

Ahead of the 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix, two Formula E drivers traded their race suits for dancing shoes in a lively warm-up for the season opener. Sam Bird and Taylor Barnard, both from the Neom McLaren Formula E Team, embraced the vibrant culture of Brazil by trying their hands at samba dancing in the heart of São Paulo.

The unique activity took place at the iconic Sambadrome Circuit, where the drivers were guided by professional samba dancers and accompanied by an energetic eight-piece band.

As they attempted to master the intricate footwork and rhythm of Brazil’s famous dance style, the drivers provided entertainment and laughter, adding a touch of local magic to the build-up to the race.

As the race day begins on December 7, this cultural experience allowed the drivers to unwind and recharge while connecting with the traditions of their host country.

Taylor Barnard, No.5 driver for Neom McLaren, shared his excitement: “Super excited to be here in Brazil, and preparations for the race have been going well. We have managed to explore the local culture, too, which is new for me, so it has been really exciting. Sam and I cannot wait to get going!”

The São Paulo E-Prix, set at the Anhembi Sambadrome Circuit, is expected to be another thrilling round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Last year, the event produced some of the most intense racing in the series’ history, with over 200 overtakes and a dramatic last-lap finish. Sam Bird secured Neom McLaren’s first win in Formula E ahead of his Season 9 teammate, Mitch Evans.

The final podium was decided by just 0.2 seconds, with Oliver Rowland edging out Pascal Wehrlein and Jake Dennis for third.

Brazilian fans can watch the action live on Grande Prêmio or Band. The Formula E website has a full list of global broadcast schedules.
