Leonardo to deliver a secure communications network to UAE

50+ nations rely on firm’s mission-critical solutions

Italy’s Leonardo has reinforced its commitment to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by signing a contract to modernise the country’s armed forces’ communications network. According to a Leonardo statement, the initiative marks a pivotal enhancement in cybersecurity, essential for the nation’s strategic applications.

The programme aims to enhance secure communications and information systems vital to the UAE’s national security. The upgrades significantly improve the network and IT infrastructure resilience, offering robust protection against cyber and physical threats. By safeguarding data availability, authenticity, integrity, and confidentiality, the initiative is designed to fortify the UAE’s defence capabilities.

Leonardo, a global leader in aerospace, defence and cybersecurity, will spearhead the design and modernisation of the communications network. Utilising state-of-the-art technologies, Leonardo will create an integrated and interoperable system.

The advanced network will facilitate seamless operations and continuous upgrades, emphasising the development of cutting-edge encryption techniques to uphold the highest security standards for communication and information management.

The project builds on the UAE’s initiative launched in 2017 to establish secure communication capabilities, further solidifying the longstanding partnership between Leonardo and the UAE Armed Forces.

With over 50 years of presence in the Middle East, Leonardo has cultivated one of its largest export markets in the UAE, providing diverse products and services across civil and defence sectors.

Leonardo’s mission-critical solutions are currently operational in more than 50 countries, playing a vital role in supporting critical infrastructure, homeland security, law enforcement, and emergency response.

As cybersecurity’s importance grows across various sectors, the demand for robust protections is expected to extend beyond digital and physical frameworks. Comprehensive security measures must now encompass systems, platforms, communications, and mobility from their inception.

Data gathering, analysis, utilisation, and protection are crucial in developing these emerging technologies. With its advanced capabilities in high-performance computing and reliable artificial intelligence, Leonardo is well-positioned to assist governments and institutional agencies in their digital transformation efforts, ultimately ensuring enhanced security and improved service quality for communities.
