250 electric taxis are set to hit Dubai’s roads

In a push for sustainability

Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) has secured 250 new taxi licence plates at an auction held by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. With these new licence plates, DTC’s total fleet size will amount to 6,210 taxis, and the taxi operator will generate an additional AED85 million in annual revenue. DTC will allocate the 250 new licence plates to electric vehicles (EVs) in its taxi fleet.

With the addition of 250 EVs to its taxi fleet, DTC’s environmentally friendly fleet will constitute about 87% of its taxi and limousine offerings, including hybrids and EVs. This aligns with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, the Dubai government’s goals for comprehensive ecological sustainability, and DTC’s commitment to innovative, eco-friendly transport solutions in the Dubai emirate.

DTC’s commitment to sustainability involves enhancing operational capabilities to meet the rising demand for transportation services across Dubai emirate while reducing emissions and promoting environmental preservation.

Taxi services in Dubai are convenient and reliable transportation for residents and visitors to the emirate. DTC offers a variety of taxi options, ensuring comfort and safety while adhering to high transportation quality standards. The base fare for a taxi ride is AED12, with an additional charge of AED1.97 per kilometre, though prices vary based on time and location.

Taxis are available throughout the Dubai emirate and can be quickly hailed on the street or booked via apps. Notably, services like Uber and Careem also operate in Dubai, offering competitive pricing and convenience. Overall, Dubai’s taxi system is efficient and operates 24/7, making it a popular but costly choice compared to public transport for getting around the emirate.

A public shareholding entity, DTC is the largest taxi operator in Dubai emirate, holding a market share of approximately 46% in Dubai.
