The 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, hosted by Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) in collaboration with the sport’s governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), will combine top class sporting action with a long list of entertainment attractions to provide an unbeatable experience and family event.
Taking place next to Abu Dhabi’s Nation Towers from 17-21 December (Tuesday to Saturday), the seventh edition of the event returns to the emirate for the second time having entertained thousands of spectators in 2022, and is set to follow suit again to round off an unforgettable year of sport in the UAE capital.
The free-to-attend UCI Urban Cycling World Championships include competitions in two disciplines: BMX Freestyle (Park and Flatland for Men and Women) and trials (Women Elite, Men Elite 20’’, Men Elite 26’’, Men Junior 20’’, Men Junior 26’’ and mixed team).
On the sidelines of some of the world’s leading cyclists going wheel to wheel, spectators can enjoy five days packed with entertainment and delicious food and beverage options, with the family-friendly 2024 Mother of the Nation (MOTN) Festival also in close proximity along the iconic Corniche.
A packed entertainment schedule at the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships includes:
- Stunt riding – BMX stunt riders will provide a sprinkling of awesome magic tricks of their own as part of the unique cycling entertainment on display.
- Breakdancing – Leading breakdancers will be performing to keep the party rocking with their dazzling repertoire of movement and creativity.
- Magic shows – Apart from the magical action on the competition tracks, a world-class magician will be on hand to amaze and awe spectators of all ages.
- Live music – ‘Radio Head’ will keep the energy high throughout the event with live music and crowd interaction.
- Jugglers and mime artists – Performers will show off juggling skills with displays of spinning clubs, balls, and diabolos, while mime artists will transcend all language barriers with some captivating – and highly amusing – storytelling, using just their bodies.
As if all of this was not enough, watch out too for the incredible Mirror Man, who will be amazing crowds with his imaginative performances, the LED Man, who will literally light up the event, along with live Bubble Artists, Hoola Hoopers, Stilt Walkers, and Balloon Makers.
Meanwhile, the UCI World Championships is the latest major event for the fast-growing sport of cycling in Abu Dhabi, further strengthening the city’s reputation as an important cycling destination, and supporting Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s priority to develop activities that offer wellbeing and fitness benefits for all of the family.
That includes the 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, which were held in late October, plus the 2024 UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum held on 18-19 December 2024, the UCI’s annual conference dedicated to the promotion of sustainable and active mobility, and cycling’s contribution to the global sustainable development agenda.
