Cathay Pacific partners with Michelin-starred restaurant in Hong Kong

For a taste of home in the skies

Cathay Pacific is partnering with Eaton HK’s Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, Yat Tung Heen, to enhance its inflight dining experience for Premium Economy and Economy class passengers. The collaboration brings a selection of authentic Cantonese dishes from the heart of Hong Kong to the skies, giving travellers a genuine taste of the city’s culinary excellence.

The collaboration with Yat Tung Heen marks a significant milestone in Cathay Pacific’s ongoing efforts to provide exceptional dining experiences. Since its establishment in 1990, Yat Tung Heen has been renowned for its refined Cantonese cuisine, led by Chef Tam Tung. The restaurant’s focus on using the freshest ingredients to craft traditional yet innovative dishes aligns perfectly with Cathay Pacific’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

The newly crafted “Hong Kong Flavours” menu is available to Premium Economy and Economy passengers on selected long-haul flights and regional routes, including Mainland China, Japan, and Thailand destinations. Cathay Pacific aims to offer travellers a genuine culinary experience that captures the essence of Hong Kong’s vibrant food culture.

In Premium Economy, passengers can savour dishes such as smoked duck breast with pickled mustard greens and galangal. Inspired by Chiu Chow-style braised duck, the dish combines tender duck with a tangy, sweet-savoury pickled vegetable mix, offering a harmonious balance of flavours. Other main course options include braised beef brisket with chu hou sauce and stir-fried seafood with jade melon in XO sauce, ensuring a variety of tastes to cater to different palates.

Standout dish

One standout dish is crispy halibut with supreme soy sauce, braised bamboo pith, and egg-fried rice. This dish showcases delicate halibut fillets fried to perfection, offering a satisfying contrast of crispy exterior and moist interior, enhanced by the sweet-salty flavour of supreme soy sauce.

In Economy, passengers can enjoy various dishes, from marinated cherry tomatoes to preserved plums, which balances sweetness and tanginess. The main course options include baked chicken with aromatic ginger and aged mandarin peel, a recipe that pays homage to one of Yat Tung Heen’s signature dishes. The tender and full-flavoured chicken is paired with egg-fried rice and kai lan, offering a comforting and well-balanced meal.

Another option is the sweet and sour pork with fresh pineapple, a classic Cantonese dish known for its vibrant sauce and tender chunks of pork. For a more indulgent choice, braised duck with taro in a pickled plum sauce is a rich, satisfying meal that evokes the deep flavours of traditional Cantonese cuisine.

Cathay Pacific’s General Manager of Customer Experience and Design, Vivian Lo, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating that it allows the airline to offer a unique dining experience in Premium Economy and Economy cabins. “Our goal is to enrich every traveller’s journey by introducing them to the distinctive flavours of Hong Kong, created by the culinary expertise of Cathay Pacific and Yat Tung Heen,” she said.

Chef Tam Tung, the mastermind behind Yat Tung Heen’s signature dishes, is enthusiastic about extending his culinary legacy to the skies. He hopes that passengers will enjoy the unique flavours of his creations, bringing the warmth and richness of Hong Kong cuisine to their travels.

The partnership underscores Cathay Pacific’s ongoing dedication to elevating the passenger experience through its premium cabins and all travel classes. The airline offers passengers an authentic taste of its home city by bringing one of Hong Kong’s best-known Michelin-starred dining experiences to the skies.

Cathay Pacific’s collaboration with Yat Tung Heen is a testament to the airline’s ongoing efforts to deliver unparalleled dining experiences, making every flight a memorable journey for customers.
