Delta pledges $1m to American Red Cross for California wildfires relief efforts

Carrier sets up donation microsite, too

Delta Air Lines has pledged $1 million to the American Red Cross to support efforts in aiding the tens of thousands of individuals impacted by California’s devastating and fast-moving wildfires.

This donation is in addition to the $1 million grant Delta previously provided to the American Red Cross through its Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP). The airline’s ongoing partnership with the Red Cross is critical in supporting disaster relief across the United States, assisting in the wake of various emergencies, including hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and home fires.

Tad Hutcheson, Delta’s Managing Director of Community Engagement, expressed its commitment to helping those in need within its customer base and broader communities.

“Serving people, whether they are our customers or our neighbours in the communities where we live, work and serve, is part of Delta’s DNA,” said Hutcheson.

“The destruction across California, particularly in the Los Angeles area, is devastating, and we want to do what we can to help those in need. One of the most effective ways we can support the community is by investing in the disaster relief efforts of the American Red Cross, our partner for 84 years.”

In addition to Delta’s direct donation, customers can contribute to the relief efforts for the wildfire victims. In collaboration with the Red Cross, a dedicated microsite has been created where donations can be made directly to support immediate relief needs in California.

Delta’s partnership with the American Red Cross dates back to 1941, making it the airline’s longest-standing non-profit collaboration. Over the decades, this relationship has enabled Delta, its employees, and customers to assist in various disaster response efforts. Delta is the largest corporate sponsor of blood drives in the United States, a title it has held for seven consecutive years.

This latest contribution reinforces Delta’s broader commitment to disaster relief and community support, highlighting the airline’s role in providing financial and operational assistance to those affected by natural disasters across the United States.
