UAE National Day: Fujairah Ruler Orders Release of 129 Prisoners

Fujairah’s Ruler, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council, has ordered the release of 129 inmates from the emirate’s penal and correctional facilities ahead of the UAE’s 54th Union Day.

The individuals, who come from a range of nationalities, were approved for release after meeting the criteria for good conduct. The initiative reflects the Ruler’s ongoing commitment to giving rehabilitated inmates a fresh start and easing the burden on their families during the national celebrations.

Across the country, the tradition of issuing pardons during Union Day highlights the UAE’s focus on social cohesion and community wellbeing.

Earlier on Thursday, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 2,937 inmates from correctional institutions nationwide and pledged to settle the financial penalties included in their sentences.

In Sharjah, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, also directed the release of 366 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Etihad, according to the Sharjah Government Media Office. The inmates selected had demonstrated good behaviour and met all conditions required for pardon.
