Commuters across Dubai and Sharjah faced major disruptions during the morning rush hour on Wednesday after multiple traffic incidents caused severe congestion on key arterial roads.
Major accident on Sheikh Zayed Road
The most significant delays were reported on Sheikh Zayed Road, where a multi-vehicle collision brought traffic to a near standstill close to Global Village.
Dubai Police confirmed the incident through their official social media channels, warning motorists of heavy congestion on the stretch heading towards Jebel Ali.
In a post shared on X, Dubai Police said: “Multi-vehicle traffic accident causing congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road opposite Global Village, heading towards Jebel Ali. Expect delays and drive carefully.”
Traffic authorities are continuing clearance operations, but congestion has already stretched for several kilometres. Motorists reported delays of up to 30 to 45 minutes on journeys that would normally take around 15 to 20 minutes.
Advisory for motorists
Drivers travelling towards Jebel Ali have been advised to use alternative routes where possible or allow extra travel time. Authorities have also urged motorists to remain patient, follow traffic instructions, and avoid sudden lane changes near the affected area.

Dubai Police reminded road users to maintain safe following distances and exercise caution, particularly during peak hours. Commuters are encouraged to stay updated through Dubai Police and Roads and Transport Authority traffic alerts for real-time updates before setting out on their journeys.
